Lustrum Exhibition ‘The Eternal Student'
What is a university without its students? The university celebrates 450 years of studying with a photo exhibition that highlights students from the past 450 years. How did they study in the past? And how do they study now? ‘The Eternal Student’ takes on a whole new face.
Travel with us into the past and discover that there are not only differences but also many similarities with today’s students. Take a behind-the-scenes look at our education system: from the anatomical theatre to lectures with VR glasses, from exams at the professor’s home to online testing. And of course, students have never been solely focused on studying—student protests, student housing, and associations are also highlighted. And what does the future of studying look like?
The lustrum exhibition will be on display from April 22 to October 26, 2025, in the Hortus botanicus. Not nearby? The exhibition will also be available online via 450 years of Leiden University - Leiden University.
