The Rotary Santa Run Leiden is a fun run where participants, dressed as Santa Claus, complete a course through the city center of Leiden the day before Christmas. All this is for a good cause.
A maximum of 1,574 participants of all ages can take part in this festive event. The number of participants is a reference to the year when Leiden was liberated from Spanish rule.
The Sport in Beeld Foundation organizes the Santa Run in close collaboration with the local Rotary. This service club chooses a good cause each year to raise money for, showing during the Christmas season that their motto, "Service above Self," is not just a saying, but something they put into action in a truly remarkable way.
Sport in Beeld, together with the participants, ensures that the city is colored red and white, and participants can enjoy performances and treats at various spots along the route.
