Galerie Café Leidse Lente has become a household name in Leiden and the surrounding area. A unique place where Maker and Lover meet. Leidse Lente is a place that arouses enthusiasm, curiosity and wonder. While enjoying a nice cup of coffee, lunch or dinner, a good glass of wine or a nice beer, you can enjoy art, music or whatever the day brings. You can participate too! Exhibit your work, throw a surprise party, get behind the grand piano and take advantage of the open stage.
Besides being a gallery, it is an excellent Grand Café, the new living room of culture-loving Leiden. As soon as you walk in at Leidse Lente you immediately feel at ease, there is so much to discover that you are actually a pair of eyes short. The furniture is very diverse, there is a stage with a drum kit and a beautiful grand piano, in a corner you can spin old-fashioned Plato records, there is a shop-like area ‘The hotshop’ with showcases with the work of artists, goldsmiths and on the separate top floor is a pro exhibition space.
Exhibitions change every six weeks with a different theme each time. Programming such as lectures, films, workshops and music is built around the chosen theme. Connections are thereby sought in Leiden and the surrounding area. And then there are the toilets; they are works of art in themselves.
Leidse Lente is also the living room of Haagweg 4, the collective building that houses 55 studios and 25 creative businesses. Leidse Lente is keen to build a bridge between artists and the rest of the city. For that reason, we also started the Cultural Service Desk Central, where anyone can go with questions. At the service desk, the interests of internal artists and companies are looked after, but also very much the interests of makers from the city. Ideas in the cultural field or questions can be deposited at the cultural service desk. This initiative will have a coordinating function and improve synergy in the city.
Leidse Lente, Leiden's cultural hotspot and the calling card of Haagweg 4.
