Het Haagsche Schouw was established in the Middle Ages as a ferry house and became a tollgate later on. In the early 17th century, it was rebuilt into an inn with a stepped gable. Until 1902, travellers to The Hague were brought across the water here in a flat-bottomed skiff known as a schouw. After that a bridge was constructed, but the old inn, aptly named Het Haagsche Schouw, remained. In 2008 the building had a thorough restoration, ensuring its tremendous historical value remained intact.
