In the early 1900s, Katwijk was one of the largest artist villages in Europe. National and international painters settled in the fishing village due to the dynamic fishing scenes on the beach and the beautiful light.

The museum features a remarkable collection of paintings by renowned artists such as Bernardus Johannes Blommers, Willy Sluiter, Jan van Goyen, Hans von Bartels, Morgenstjern Munthe, German Grobe, and Jan Toorop.

This charming museum is located in the heart of Katwijk, in a beautiful shopping area, just 200 meters from the sea. It is housed in a former shipowner's residence from the early twentieth century, which has been expanded over the years with a modern wing. In addition to stunning paintings and temporary exhibitions, you can also explore the extensive heritage collection of the fishing industry.

Visit the Katwijks Museum and the Vuurbaak. Enjoy a breath of fresh air on the beach and savor some fish at one of the many beach pavilions. There is much more to see and do in Katwijk.

Welcome to the Katwijks Museum, the museum by the sea.
